How to get Fruits and Veggies into Your Diet

Well the new school year is about to begin. Many parents and children are
looking for ways to get good and healthy food into them selves and families.
The Better Health foundation has a few suggestion on how to get your 5 a day
of fruits and veggies.
- Buy low-fat yogurt, fruit juice, and bananas to blend into a delicious smoothie.
- Buy pre-cut vegetables, pre packaged or salad bar, to snack on between meals or at lunch time.
- Make your own frozen dessert by combining 100% fruit juice with chopped bananas and other seasonal fruit into an ice cube tray.
- Pack dried fruits, like figs, apricots, and bananas to eat on the go.
- Try freezing a chocolate-covered banana on a stick.
- Eat vegetable pizza, a veggie “wrap, or veggie pasta with low-fat sauce when dinning out.

This is only a start to a healthy way of eating and staying healthy. Remember
to have a physical once a year with your health care provider and discuss any
concerns with him/her on your visits.
Eating healthy and maintaining your body is easier than trying to repair
damage caused by not taking care of yourself.
Remember if you need help or information please contact a member of the
parish nursing committee and we will try to assist you in any way we can.
